FIFA World Cup 2010: Brazil vs Ivory Coast: Samba boys ready for the elephants

Till date, Brazil have never lost to a team from outside South America or Europe in FIFA World Cup Hitory, a record which will be put to the test against Africa’s Ivory coast, later this evening in Johannesburg.
Brazil tops the Group G with 3 points after a 2-1 victory over last place Korea DPR. The Ivory Coast and Portugal drawed 0-0 and are tied for 2nd position in group with 1 point apiece.
If the Portugal Korea DPR match ends at draw, Brazil could secure a spot in the round of 16 with the win in this game. A victory, or even a draw, would still put them in a strong position going into the last round of group games, as they would still retain the top position in the group.
Portugal is expected to beat Korea DPR and if they do, they’ll have 4 points. so this really is an important game for the Ivory Coast, which they can’t afford to lose. They need to secure three points in order to have a realistic chance of moving to the next stage.

David Beckham becomes Yahoo! football pundit for the World Cup

Looks like David Beckham will be playing for Yahoo! next season after signing a deal that will see him become the website's public face for football coverage.
Beckham will be rolled out for Yahoo! coverage of the World Cup in South Africa and the 2010/2011 Premier League. Yahoo' existing football coverage will now also be married with exclusive David Beckham content and commentary.
Becham will have his own microsite with Yahoo!, providing analysis and columns for the football pages, as well as directly answering fan questions over Yahoo Answers, Y! Messenger and Y! Mail.
"Yahoo has a true relationship with fans and is an online leader in sports content across the globe," said Beckham. "[It] will allow me to interact one on one with as many football fans as possible, talking about the game I love."

France’s Euro 2012 Draw

Even though the World Cup still seems far away, the draw to qualify for Euro 2012 has already taken place. Sorry for the delay in reporting and general neglect on this blog recently. I’ve been incredibly busy at work and I contribute to two other Offside blogs (Marseille and Ligue 1 – check them out!). Thanks to Jeff for filling us in on some of the Viera updates- it is hard not to love a player who just won’t go away.
Now, back to Euro 2012….
For the draw (which took place earlier this month), France was placed in Pot 1 as the 7th seed with its fellow top 9 European teams (Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, England, Croatia, Portugal and Russia). As a reminder (as if we needed one), there was much discussion over which pot France would be drawn from during the World Cup draw. France was eventually placed in Pot 2 since their World Cup play-off game against Ireland occurred after the cut-off date. Fortunately, France didn’t provide any new controversy for the media to focus on for this draw- but a few other countries helped provide some scandal for the media to focus on. Before the draw, UEFA confirmed that for “political reasons” (mostly territorial disputes) Armenia could not be drawn against Azerbaijan and Russia could not be drawn into the same group as Georgia. Historically, these teams have refused to hold matches against each other. So, when Armenia and Azerbaijan were actually both drawn into group A- UEFA moved Azerbaijan into group B. I have no qualms with this- after what happened with Togo at the African Cup of Nations, we can’t be so naive to think that groups won’t take out their political angst on visiting teams and innocent civilians. I did see a few newspaper articles which suggested that France and Ireland should be separated- which just seems ridiculous to me (clearly not the same thing as Georgia/Russia and Armenia/Azerbaijan). Apparently UEFA agreed with me, and Plantini even welcomed the “great” match-up.
What do they need to do to qualify?
To qualify for Euro 2012, France (ranked 7th) will need to either win their group (automatic qualification) or place second, which makes them eligible to participate in a play-off game against another group’s second place team. The Euro 2012 finals will take place from June 8 to July 1 2012 in eight host cities – four in each of the two countries – with the final set to be held in Kiev.
Looking at this group on paper, there is no reason we shouldn’t qualify as first..easily! Romania (ranked 38th) and Bosnia (ranked are probably our biggest rival. In the World Cup qualification campaign Romania demonstrated how lethal they can be- They scored two goals against us in game 1 (which forced us to dig deep to equalize at 2-2) and the 1-1 draw in Paris closed the door on winning the World Cup group. Bosnia was extremely impressive in World Cup qualifying- only being stopped by current the European champions, Spain. They have an excellent team, including Zvjezdan Misimovic (Wolfsburg), Edin Dzeko (Wolfsburg) and Miralem Pjanic (Lyon). We have played and beaten Albania twice and France are 13-1 against Luxembourg (the loss was in 1914). Belarus (ranked 80th) and France have never faced each other- so they represent an unknown competitor. I don’t know much about Belarus’ team- but I don’t think traveling to unknown Eastern Europe stadium is ever a pleasant trip. The ferocity of the fans (with few traveling fans), the weather, quality of the stadium/field and travel time (since none of the French players are based there)- are just a few things that make those trips hard. And we will be going to Eastern Europe four times (Romania, Bosnia, Albania and Belarus).

Pill Shaped USB Flash Drive

Rollin Rockers's new limited edition LP will come in a totally unconventional form factor - we're talking about the Pill Shaped USB flash drive here, where it is going for $15 a pop. Apart from all the songs that you will get on a regular LP, the additional space available on the USB flash drive is not gone to waste since it features music videos, photos as well as exclusive Rollin Rockers content to keep most fans happy. We do wonder whether carrying this at security checkpoints will arouse more suspicion than intended though considering the nature of its shape as well as implications.

2012 BMW 3 Series Rendering

Is this the BMW 3 Series that is supposed to arrive in 2011? We are not quite sure but this does look worthy enough. The folk from Teknikensvarld have come up with this rendering that was featured on BMW Blog.
The guys have come up with a very interesting concept. The BMW 3 Series received a facelift this year and it is good enough to withstand strong competition from the A4 and C-Class until the new one arrives sometime in 2011.
BMW has already begun testing the next generation 3 Series platform albeit with a body shell of the present model. So the final design cannot be too far behind. We hear that we are still a year’s time away from the first 2012 3 Series prototypes on the road for testing and the final design will be chosen in spring this year.

Teknikensvarld reports that the 2012 BMW 3 Series will carry forward design from the CS concept which is why their new rendering makes more sense. The larger front grille and a flat nose section comply with the new Pedestrian regulations.
The BMW trademark “corona-ring” headlights will replace the current style, but will be much more similar to the ones on the 5 series GT. The bonnet will follow the curves and bulges as found on the M3. The new 3 will have a far more aggressive look and will surely be the one to beat in terms of style.
The 2012 BMW 3 Series is codenamed F35 and will have a stretched wheelbase and wider rear track. The Efficient dynamics will be taking center stage with the debut of new features like Stop-Start technology, Kinetic Energy Recovery System and a hybrid is also a possibility but we are not sure. Also present will be advanced technologies for wireless internet and data connectivity.
We do know that the BMW 3 series is the brand’s most important model and so they need to get it spot on. Indian debut will be immediately after the international launch.

Think that your shiny new BlackBerry Bold 9650 is beginning to look just like everybody else's out there? While you can't add any new features to the cell phone, the folks over at ColorWare can help you customize its colors to make it stand out, and hopefully you won't pick the same color scheme as everybody else out there. You'll also need to lighten your wallet by a good $150 for this.

Concept: Communication Gadget Projects A Virtual Keyboard

With powerful smartphones such as the iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G, we do sometimes wonder why folks would want a dedicated messaging device, but then again, maybe they own a simpler no-fuss mobile phone. The Communication Gadget concept design looks pretty cool. When closed it looks like a metal tube, but it can be expanded to connect directly to an ICQ server, projecting images/messages onto a flat surface, giving you a virtual keyboard to send off your messages too. Would you carry something like this around with you if you were to hit the streets?

MotoCzysz E1pc Electric Bike Is Fast

Do you think that electric vehicles are puny little things that can't muster enough speed? If you do, that's probably because you haven't checked out the MotoCzysz E1pc, an electric bike that sports a whole bunch of batteries, about 10 times the capacity of the Toyota Prius, giving it enough juice to reach speeds of 140 mph. The added bonus is that it looks really cool and futuristic, and you'd be doing your bit to save the environment. Check out a video of it after the jump.

Lexip 3DM-Pro is a 3D mouse

What's 3D mouse will you ask? This time around, this is not an Air Mouse that can be waved like a remote. Instead Lexip's 3DM Pro looks like a regular mouse, except that it comes with additional controls and sensors that give you 6 degrees of freedom. In addition to being able to pan on a 2D plane like any mouse, the 3DM pro also has a mechanism that lets you control the Yaw (x-axis) and the Roll (z-axis, looking forward) by simply applying pressure to the front, back, left or right side of the mouse. An additional joystick placed on the right thumb (if you are right-handed) lets you control the Pitch

Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock comes with a redesigned controller

The Guitar Hero franchise has certainly come a long way since its inception, and the upcoming title, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will offer a controller redesign that is not only wireless, but will merge all of the electronics into the neck and fretboard. Basically, this means the body does not have the responsibility of holding sensitive electronics apart from looking good in your living room when you rock it out. Since there is no built-in circuitry, you are able to swap these guitar bodies at any time you want, which will be attached to the fretboard in a two-part wing formation. What do you think of this redesign - will the hardware influence your purchase of the game?

iPhone 4G To Be Launched On June 18th

This is still very much a rumor and speculation at this point, but with WWDC just around the corner, you would more or less expect it. According to the folks at Boy Genius, the sales quotas for AT&T store reps are incredibly high for the month of June, increased by about 25-30%, leading to speculation that the iPhone 4G will be launched in June. That being said, they're speculating that if the iPhone 4G were to be launched on Friday the 25th, the sales quotas wouldn't be met in time, which leads them to conclude that the iPhone 4G will be launched on Friday, June 18th. Do you think that June 18th could be a possible launch date for the iPhone 4G?

LG Flutter Concept Phone

Concept phones always look interesting, though very often the design isn't practical for day-to-day use if it were made into a real product. The Flutter was an entrant for LG's recently concluded Design the Future contest that encouraged users to come up with concept designs. This design didn't win the competition, though it did manage to grab the Prop Master's Choice Award. When closed, the Flutter looks quite sleek with only its numeric keypad showing, though we're not too sure how the user is expected to see what's going on. The phone can be split open to reveal a display that fans out, sporting a user interface that looks like an exact clone of Apple's iPhone. Don't expect to see this phone appearing in shops anytime soon.

RUB Chopper rolls along with smoker on the side

The RUB Chopper that you see here is truly one of a kind, where it sports a working smoker that is attached at the side, thanks to the brilliant folks over at Orange County Chopper. You won't be able to find this anywhere else, that's for sure, and we'd be extremely careful when riding one of these just in case one accidentally forgets that the side holds a smoker and leans against it by accident. Forget about road rash - this will be a whole lot worse.
