Samsung has announced a new rugged smartphone known as the Galaxy XCover. This would be Samsung's first Android-based ruggedised smartphone, and should appeal to both extreme sports fans and Mumbai commuters.
The Galaxy XCover runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 3.64-inch touchscreen made from tempered glass.
The smartphone has IP67 dirt and dust resistance, it can also survive for up to 30 minutes underwater, provided it is 1 metre deep. XCover also sports a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash, which doubles up as a torch.
The pricing of the device is unknown but it is expected to be a mid-range Android smartphone, as it is running a single-core 800MHz processor. Will it send the Moto Defy running for cover? The device will hit the German markets sometime in October, so we'll find out soon enough.
